Common Health Scams: A Summary
- Ingredient labels: Scammers often provide misleading or incomplete ingredients. These do not correspond to the actual contents of the product. You can omit required ingredient information or use artificial colors without disclosing.
- Fake Reviews: Many scam products contain fake reviews. The review sections may lack any real functionality or verification. This is a common warning sign.
- Misleading prices: Products may display inconsistent pricing information. You can display different prices for a single item compared to multiple items. Tactics like countdown timers can create a false sense of urgency.
- No manufacturer or contact information: Fraudulent products are often missing important information such as the name or address of the manufacturer. You can waive the tracking and verification labeling required by the FDA.
- Using Stock Photos for “Medical Advisors”: Scammers often submit fake recommendations from “medical advisors” who are actually stock images or actors, giving their claims false credibility.
