As I sat down Natasha Trenev, founder of Natren Probiotics, I wanted to dive deep into the science behind their flagship product, the Natren Healthy Trinity.
This isn't just another bottle in the crowded world of probiotic products.
It is a unique formulation with decades of proven safety, designed to deliver beneficial bacteria alive and ready throughout the digestive tract.

A rare safety record in the dietary supplement industry
One of the first things Natasha shared: In 44 years, Natren Probiotics has never sent anyone to the hospital, emergency room, or even a doctor's office because of harm from the product. In a time when many nutritional supplements are barely monitored, this is no small feat.

It's not just about selling probiotic supplements. Natasha has always insisted on the original guiding principle of the health food industry: do no harm. That's one of the reasons I've trusted their work for decades.
Designing for the digestive system
The digestive tract is not an easy place for probiotic bacteria to survive. Your stomach's main job is to break down proteins and kill bacteria. It is essentially a hostile environment for any strains of bacteria you ingest.
Natasha explained that she chose oil as the base for Healthy Trinity because oil does not break down in the stomach. By suspending the living microorganisms in oil and sealing them in a gelatin capsule, they bypass the stomach's aggressive gastric acid without harm.

Unlike many “vegetarian” capsules, gelatin is a natural protein that breaks down predictably.
Many vegetarian capsules are made from chemically modified compounds, as Natasha pointed out. Some have chemical names that are 25 letters long, making them difficult to understand.
Her choice was conscious: gelatin is gentle, effective and has a good effect on the body.
Survive the stomach
Here's a fact that most people overlook when comparing probiotic products: survival rate through the stomach is everything.
Natasha's data shows that Healthy Trinity bacteria survive for over an hour at a pH of 1.8, an acidity specifically designed to destroy microbes.
If probiotic strains cannot survive this stage, the best colony forming unit number on a label does not matter.
As Natasha put it: dead bacteria doesn't help. That's the difference between hope and real digestive support.
Three tribes, three houses in the gastrointestinal tract
Healthy Trinity contains only three strains of bacteria, but each has been selected for a specific role in the gastrointestinal tract:
- Lactobacillus acidophilus – Thrives in both oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor environments, particularly in the small intestine. It has been studied in over 10,000 scientific papers and remains one of the most researched probiotic species for digestive health and immune function.
- Bifidobacterium bifidum – Natasha was the first to introduce this strain to the US in 1986, long before it became popular. It prefers the large intestine (colon), which contains little to no oxygen. Studies by Japanese and German scientists describe it as one of the most important bacteria for human health.
- Lactobacillus bulgaricus – Known as that “Longevity bacteria” It was first developed by Dr. Ilia Metchnikoff, who linked it to the long-lived Bulgarians. It stimulates the activity of killer cells and T cells, supports your immune function and helps the body eliminate toxins – important for healthy skin, strong energy levels and slowing premature aging.
Why not add more varieties?
It's tempting to think more is better, but Natasha warns against this. Some probiotic species can compete or cancel each other out if they are incompatible. Healthy Trinity's three strains were selected for their ability to work together in harmony.

In fact, a gastroenterologist reported that patients taking Healthy Trinity showed an increase in Akkermansia and other beneficial bacteria – meaning these three strains can naturally stimulate the growth of other friendly microbes in the gut microbiome.
More than just a short-term solution
Many people treat probiotics like medication – they take them until symptoms go away, then stop. But traditional diets included cultured foods every day.
For those recovering from serious digestive issues such as Crohn's disease or colitis, I recommend staying on Healthy Trinity for at least a year after symptoms disappear.
If you don't regularly eat high-quality fermented foods, taking effective probiotics daily can be one of the best ways to maintain a healthy gut in our toxic modern world.
On an empty stomach or with food?
People often ask about the best time to take probiotics. While we didn't focus on it in our conversation, Healthy Trinity's delivery system is designed to protect bacteria, whether you take it on an empty stomach or with a meal.

The oil-based and gall-tolerant varieties handle both situations.
Behind the manufacturing process
Natasha oversees every step of the manufacturing process from sourcing raw ingredients to ensuring cold chain storage in glass bottles. This protects the effectiveness of the living microorganisms until the expiry date.
No shortcuts, no compromises.
Address individual needs
Every intestine is unique. Your individual needs will depend on your diet, stress levels, age and medical history.
Healthy Trinity's design – three powerful strains, precisely appropriate amounts and a proven protection system – was developed to provide the greatest possible benefit for a wide range of specific health problems.
The role of immune function and overall health
Your gut houses 70% of your immune system.
Supporting you with good bacteria can improve your resistance to infections, reduce the overgrowth of bacteria, and help treat inflammation. Natasha emphasized that probiotics should be about supporting gut health and overall health, not looking for quick fixes.
What science and tradition agree on
Science confirms what traditional diets have shown for centuries: regular intake of lactic acid bacteria supports digestion, nutrient absorption and a balanced intestinal microbiome.

Healthy Trinity combines scientific research with practical, everyday application – something rare in the world of supplements.
