Join me for this insightful podcast episode with Jill Norris, RN, as we delve into the results of my own Hair Mineral Analysis Test (HMAT).
Jill shares her experiences with thousands of clients over the past three years and explains how the minerals stored in our hair tissue provide a clear map of what is happening in our body, particularly in our endocrine system (adrenal and thyroid).
You'll also learn how hair mineral analysis testing can guide detoxification protocols that use atomic-sized minerals to safely chelate (remove) heavy metals from the body.
What is a hair mineral analysis test?
A hair mineral analysis test (also called HMAT or mineral hair test) measures the levels of important minerals and toxic metals stored in your hair tissue.
It's different from a blood test because it shows what your body has stored over time, not just what's currently circulating in your blood.
This simple, non-invasive test can reveal deeper patterns of deficiency, toxicity and hormonal imbalance that are easy to miss during normal laboratory work.

Key takeaways from the podcast
Minerals and Thyroid Function
- Potassium sensitizes the cell to the T3 hormone
- Selenium helps convert T4 (inactive form) to T3 (active form)
- Certain plants block mineral absorption (oxalates!) and impair thyroid function – soaking grains and cooking vegetables (like spinach, kale) is the solution.
Minerals and your hormones
- Copper and estrogen follow each other in the body. When copper increased, estrogen also increased.
- Zinc stands for testosterone and progesterone.
- The body stores minerals in the tissues. When blood levels drop, the body can pull the minerals it needs from the tissues.
We also discuss how minerals reflect or indicate our emotional state – yes, stress shows up in mineral levels and ratios!
How a hair mineral test helps with heavy metal detoxification
Jill regularly uses mineral hair analysis testing to develop safe and effective protocols to detoxify heavy metals such as mercury, lead and aluminum.
The protocol typically starts with balancing your electrolyte minerals and then uses targeted support (like zinc and selenium) to draw out the toxic metals.
If you're wondering whether your symptoms could be related to hidden toxicity, a hair analysis for mineral deficiencies and metal exposure could give you the answers you need.
Anemia – Tissue and blood levels of iron
We end the podcast with a discussion about iron and anemia. Jill points out that if your tissue iron levels are good, you need to have a blood test to check iron binding capacity.
If the HMAT shows that iron levels in your tissues are within the acceptable range, taking more iron is not the solution. The iron binding capacity test (blood test) should reveal a problem with how your body uses iron to make hemoglobin and whether something is going wrong with that pathway.
Or there may be a B12 deficiency. You can also check this by looking at your cobalt levels on the HMAT. Remember to take B12 in liquid form (like MultiAbsorb) or sublingually.
If you would like to receive your own HMAT, you can order the test and work directly with Jill via Zoom.
My personal experiences after taking the hair mineral analysis test
I immediately implemented Jill's suggestion of adding Celtic sea salt to the water instead of just eating it. And WOW. At the first sip my body said, “YES!!”
Who knew that salt in water (or herbal tea) could make such a difference? I have made my own herbal teas using nettle in hot water and now I also add a pinch of salt.
Jill is unfamiliar with Trace Matrix and Fulvic/Humic Acid's powerful ability to chelate heavy metals, so I also added that to the protocol she gave me.
If you have used my Muscle Matrix blend, you know that it already contains potassium. But for someone as deficient as me, I had to take extra potassium (I added it to Muscle Matrix) and that alone was a game changer. Muscle cramps don't occur at all and I have more energy.
Where to get a hair mineral analysis test kit
Are you ready to try it yourself? You can order the best hair mineral analysis test kit and work directly with Jill via Zoom. It supports customers around the world, including those looking for:
- Hair mineral analysis test near me
- Hair mineral analysis in Great Britain, Canada, Australia or India
- It offers cost-effective testing options for hair mineral analysis
This could be the missing link in your health journey, especially if you've tried everything else.
