I received an email from a reader who had been using the QuikPlus Iron, but his iron levels had dropped and his hemoglobin only increased slightly. What could be the cause of this? Let’s look at some possible reasons, or what might be going wrong and how to fix it:
1. Are you taking an adequate dosage? This reader had used 15 drops once daily. However, the dosage instructions on the QuikPlus Iron bottle say to take 2ml (30 drops) per day. And if you want to increase hemoglobin and iron stores or have persistent bleeding (or microbleeds), you can take the same dosage (30 drops) 2-3 times a day.
2. Do you take the co-factors necessary for iron utilization? In order for your body to properly utilize iron, you also need to consume vitamin C, B12 and folate (folic acid). For severe anemia, you would take vitamin C and folic acid at different times; as they inhibit mutual absorption. So you can take vitamin C with your iron (the Angstrom iron we carry in the Shoppe has vitamin C along with iron) and then take folate and B12 at least an hour later.
If you have mild or moderate iron deficiency, you don’t need to be so careful. If you are not taking a product like MultiAbsorb (provides B12 and folic acid) along with buffered vitamin C (gentle on the intestines), consider using Ferrasorb iron capsules instead. Ferrasorb is a fantastic formula that I have used and recommended for over 20 years. It contains all the necessary co-factors and easily absorbed iron in one capsule.
3. Are you addressing the emotional component of this message from your body? The oxygen supply to your blood depends heavily on your life energy – also called chi, ki or prana. Some questions to explore regarding this possible contributor include:
- What high performance standards do I set for myself?
- What behavioral patterns do I have that constantly exhaust me or push me to my limits?
- Which relationships in my life drain my energy?
If this interests you, check out my video that covers this aspect in more detail.
I hope this helps and if you have stories to share, please leave them below 🙂
