I recently received this email from a reader (we’ll call her Alicia) who had just completed the IBD Remission Diet for six weeks – and her results are amazing! It is said:
I did your IBD remission diet for six weeks. I followed every single instruction in your book. Before that I had an inflammation, an ulcer and a stricture! I was in so much pain because the food wasn’t getting through!
I recently had a colonoscopy and my doctor was amazed! No ulcers, the inflammation has disappeared – and he was able to open the stricture by 13.5 mm because the inflammation had gone down!! He used to think it was Crohn’s and now he doesn’t think it’s Crohn’s! I’m looking forward to eating right again, but your book cured me!!! I’m amazed!!!
What would you recommend for me to maintain my nutrition while eating real food? I don’t want this to happen again! Thank you again, Jini! You are great!
If you’re unfamiliar, the IBD Remission Diet is a liquid-only, intestinal rest diet that combines elemental shakes with bone broths, vegetable broths, and a targeted supplement plan to induce remission of the disease and heal the gastrointestinal tract. People often use this program to:
1. Stop bleeding and cure inflammation
2. Give intestinal tears, fistulas and ulcers time and space to heal
3. Heal the intestinal lining with targeted amino acids and herbs
4. Cure Leaky Gut Syndrome
5. Eliminate intestinal obstruction
6. Replace poor or unbalanced intestinal flora with good bacteria
7. Provide a layer of good bacteria to cover and protect the mucous membrane from toxins, parasites, fungi and damage
8. Ensure long-term and sustained health of the entire gastrointestinal system
9. Heal and balance the entire immune system with proven nutritional supplements
10. Gain solid weight (muscle, not fat) if you are underweight or malnourished.
11. Conduct thorough testing for food intolerances and allergies as part of a food reintroduction program
12. Achieve emotional healing
13. Prevent relapses with a maintenance diet
Alicia, that is simply fantastic!! And to answer your question: Here are the supplements I recommend for maintenance with normal food intake:
Natren Probiotics – Take daily for at least a year. And if you can’t grow your own yogurt, kefir, fermented vegetables, etc. to ensure a continuous supply of probiotics through your diet, then stick with Natren for life. My whole family does that.
Vitamin D3, K2 – and if you don’t grow your own vegetables (with healthy soil microbiota and worms) and eat pasture-raised eggs/meat, then you need a full-spectrum multivitamin. I’m currently working on formulating my ideal multivitamin (for Imix Nutrition), so stay tuned!
QuikPlus Bone Matrix – for your bones and teeth. I also take additional QuikPlus magnesium and trace elements and sometimes additional silica (if I do a lot of physical work). Take a look at the feedback we received from a reader who uses silica for the same purpose:
“I LOVE this silica. I have a thumb that regularly gets sprained when I overwork it in the garden. When that happens, I wear a thumb brace. I read Jini’s similar experience and tried it and it works almost immediately, it’s amazing. I’ve already reordered. I still take a spritz of it every day and I think it’s steadily getting better with my thumb brace. It’s amazing how quickly it works. -CH”
Good fats – cod liver oil, fish oil and flaxseed oil (rich in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fat) are a must. The cell membrane is 40% fat, so we need lots of good cold-pressed and/or pastured fat to stay healthy. Grass-fed butter, organic butter, ghee and cheese are all good if tolerated. Make sure ALL oils you eat or cook with are cold pressed and ideally organic.
Antioxidants – it is always a good idea to take antioxidants like Vitamin C, CoQ10, Grapeseed Oil, Pycnogenol, etc. I also take bioflavonoids like quercetin – especially during allergy season. Again, I’m in the process of formulating a multivitamin that has all of this plus immune boosters in one blend. I’ll let you know when it’s ready!
And if you want a list of well-tolerated foods while further strengthening your gut, check out these low-residue foods.
In good health!
