MultiAbsorb Daily Essential and Immune Booster are two fantastic products (if I do say so myself!) that I developed to:

    1. I DO NOT have to open 20 capsules a day to get what I need for myself and my family

    2. Remove any fillers and flow agents found in regular multivitamins

    3. I got everything I wanted at a therapeutic level – well beyond the paltry recommended daily allowance

    4. Easy to add to any liquid; Juice, water, smoothie or shake, because liquids have the highest absorption rate

    5. Easy to store and take with you! (no refrigeration required like many bottled liquid multivitamins)

I know my readers love these products too, not only from the emails I receive, but also because they often buy 2-3 jars at a time!

I’m currently using MultiAbsorb Immune Booster – I add a scoop to an Absorb Plus shake every day. Because I’m recovering from the flu I caught in Mexico and gaining back the weight I lost. As summer approaches I will probably switch to MultiAbsorb Daily Essential. Depending on my vegetable garden (composted soil rich in microorganisms, worms and minerals), I may only use it once or twice a week. I’ll see what my body says. 🙂

But coming to the pregnancy question, one of my lovely readers wrote:

“I was beyond thrilled when you did this and it has saved so many lives! I was so tired of taking so many supplements every day that I was choking because I was so afraid of it. I’m taking the immune supplement because of a UC diagnosis but I absolutely love it. My daughter just got pregnant and am now using it as prenatal care. Thank you for your continued contributions!”

Yay – oh emails like this make me SO happy! Because YES. Snap! Exactly the reason I created these products.

However, since I didn’t develop MultiAbsorb for pregnant women, let’s see what’s missing…

According to the Mayo Clinic Pregnant women need 600-1000 mcg of folic acid (folate) per day and they need 27 mg iron, 600 IU vitamin D3 And 1000 mg calcium per day.

MultiAbsorb contains 1000 IU vitamin D3, but only 100 µg folic acid, 15 mg calcium and no iron. So you would need to add iron according to your tolerance. However, if your iron tolerance is good, Ferrasorb contains the iron you need (in a very well-tolerated form) and 667 µg folate. You will also need to add a calcium supplement like QuikPlus Bone Matrix. I don’t like regular calcium powder because it’s slow to absorb and studies suggest it builds up in the arteries. So Ferrasorb and QuikPlus Bone Matrix would be all you would need to add.

I’m surprised that the Mayo Clinic doesn’t list vitamin A as an essential supplement for pregnant women, but I found this detailed article on vitamin A that states that pregnant women need 770 mcg of RAE (retinol activity equivalents) and breastfeeding women need 1300 mcg.

MultiAbsorb contains 750 µg RAE vitamin A. Then you are on the right track. Don’t forget that you also get vitamin A from many of the foods you eat.

So YES, pregnant women can definitely use MultiAbsorb and I definitely would have used it while pregnant and breastfeeding my three children if I had it! Simply add Ferrasorb and Bone Matrix to get the missing iron, folic acid and calcium.

And if you don’t need as much iron or can’t tolerate it, then use QuikPlus atomic iron if needed and take a separate folic acid supplement. Also, take a buffered vitamin C supplement in the amount you tolerate (you must have folate, B12, and vitamin C to utilize iron).

Or here’s another fun option: Add these pregnancy gummies, which contain the folate you need, some vitamin C, and no iron.

AND be sure to check out my podcast with Dr. Scott Tyler, in which he has a completely different (important) iodine recommendation for pregnant women.

And finally, be sure to grab my Baby Fart Aerobics video! Particularly helpful for new mothers or babies with colic. I recommend watching this video before birth so you have the tools you need before a problem arises. Here’s the trailer (look how young I look – and baby Zara in this video is now 20!):

ps: My sleep stories also make a great gift for children aged 9 months to 6 years. Teach children meditative breathing and listening to their gut through interesting stories and puzzle solving – listen to a sample.
