The effects of probiotics on inflammation
Join me and Natasha Trenev, founder of Natren Probiotics, as we answer another question from an LTYG reader. This week’s question is:
“Many people find dairy to be inflammatory. Should people who struggle with inflammation avoid Natren’s dairy-based probiotics?”

Many people find dairy products to be inflammatory. Should people trying to manage inflammation avoid your dairy-based probiotics?
Yes, that is a difficult question. They know that dairy products are one of the most suitable culture media for these bacteria. That’s why they are called Lactobacillus, which means they are milk bacteria. So this is your favorite food if you are not specifically allergic to dairy. I would say go with the dairy product, it won’t cause further inflammation unless you are specifically allergic to it.
You are allergic to the components of milk, especially the protein content and lactose. You can handle it because your body can be reminded how to produce the enzyme and the bacteria will produce the enzyme for you, but milk contains the complete nutrition for these bacteria so they can do the best job for you. And I’ve fought for this for almost 50 years, this anti-dairy business, and you know the cultures that were consumed healthily, you know dairy products that were fermented daily with appropriate bacteria. So if you don’t have a milk allergy, I recommend you take the dairy products.
Can I ask you a quick question? Are the milk based powders like this? You have the loose powder and then the capsules? This is not Healthy Trinity. We talk about the other product lines. If we are talking about those cultured on dairy products, do the powders contain the milk proteins? Yes, they do, but they have been fermented. And what about the capsules? If you do the same thing when you have the powder in the capsules, you’ll just have less supernatant in the capsule than in the powder.
Okay, so that could be a starting point to test your tolerance. Because I have scar tissue in my throat, I can’t swallow pills. I just take the capsules, open them and mix them in room temperature water, but that would be a good way to start testing. And also because I did some very intensive teleseminars with a PhD in immunology and a number of experts there where we talked about the whole topic of allergies and intolerances and you know that’s a very learned way of being in the body. So you know, maybe we’re fine, we’ve been giving up milk for a long time, or we’ve been consuming pasteurized whole milk products, so our body has said forget about the milk, but we can.
There is some re-education there that can be done through a type of homeopathy where very small amounts are administered. If I wanted to do that, I would maybe start by taking one milk-based capsule and mixing it with five or six milk-based capsules and taking that together, that’s a good idea. Yes, that’s good that you mentioned. You know we have the Healthy Start system, which contains all three bacteria found in the Healthy Trinity capsule. So we have the same bacteria with different delivery mechanisms and different nutrition so that these bacteria can interact with your body and we are unique. Nitrogen is still unique.
I can assure you that there is no one who has our system or no one who produces the bacteria with the supernatant, i.e.
