Wound healing with comfrey ointmentWound healing with comfrey ointment

Hello Linsy here – and today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite wound remedies – comfrey ointment! Comfrey is the fastest wound healer Jini and I have encountered so far. It also relieves itching excellently – be it from insect bites or skin rashes.

Jini actually keeps cans of Burt’s Bees Res-Q ointment on hand in every bathroom in her home, another can in her purse, and she never travels without it. She also uses it as a nighttime lip balm and on the inside of her nose when it’s sore or dry (which is very helpful in the cold winter months). It’s also great for burns – cool the area with ice first and then apply.

Personally, Jini has repeatedly used comfrey to heal broken skin on herself and her children. We both also used it as a suppository and as a healing implant enema to stop colon bleeding. Of course, you should do your research, follow your naturopath’s advice, and only do what feels safe for you.

I also like to use it topically on my skin for hives, burns, or even sunburns – when I apply it to my skin I feel immediate relief.

    Lubricant for suppositories

I also use it rectally as a lubricant for enemas (like Jini’s Implant Enema) and for any rectal inflammation. When I was first recovering from ulcerative colitis, I had chronic tears that were SO painful. Comfrey healed my wounds and was the only thing that relieved me of the pain – after all, it also healed the tear itself. I found that I couldn’t tolerate many of the other products I used (due to the chemicals), but comfrey ointment always relieved my problems. So don’t underestimate it!

Comfrey is a fantastic wound healing agent that also works phenomenally on ulcers and bleeding. For example, when I was in healing, I used comfrey slaves after every bowel movement. I used it all day and night in addition to Jini’s implant enema until the cracks and my UC area disappeared. In my personal opinion, consistency is the key to the success of this product and chronic problems.

    Rectal use of comfrey

If used rectally, I recommend cleaning the area with a cloth first and then scooping the comfrey out of the container. This way, if you need to apply more, you won’t contaminate the container by sticking your hand in it again – especially if you’re applying the product topically to the rectal area, where bacteria may still be present.

It is recommended to store comfrey ointment in the refrigerator. However, if you insert it rectally and don’t like the cold feeling, you can remove it from the refrigerator for 10 minutes before use. You can also warm it in your hands before applying.

    Comfrey for skin problems

As I mentioned earlier, Jini uses comfrey to soothe the dry, irritated lining of her nostrils. I haven’t personally used it this way, but I’ve also heard of people using it on the tip of the nose for nosebleeds – so if you try it, let me know your experiences!

Because this bottle is so small, it is also perfect for travel. When I travel, I always bring comfrey with me in case I get any skin problems on my trip.
