I talk a lot on this blog about the health benefits of drinking raw cow’s milk or raw goat’s milk, but for those of you who can’t tolerate it, are vegan, or can’t get pasture-raised raw milk where you live, raw almond milk is an excellent alternative!
With raw almond milk, you can still enjoy granola, oatmeal, milk tea, smoothies, and all the other nice things you really miss out on when you can’t use raw dairy.
Unfortunately, most commercial brands contain thickeners such as carrageenan or oils (which may not be cold pressed and completely free of rancidity). The solution (especially for people with a sensitive digestive system) is to prepare it yourself. You won’t believe how easy and quick it is!
Dr. Ben Kim (and his wife Margaret) have published this excellent picture guide to making delicious, fresh, raw almond milk. You can really taste the difference when you make your own homemade almond milk, and you’ll never want to buy store brand again!
Remember to use raw, unpeeled almonds (preferably organic). If you don’t want to use dates as a sweetener, you can always use stevia or raw honey.
Enjoy!
