Will I gain weight?
If you are already at a healthy weight then this is the formula for you! This is because the body cannot use free amino acids alone to build weight (muscle). If you are in an active stage of the disease, you may have difficulty maintaining or gaining weight with this formula, so you will likely need to increase your daily calorie intake or alternate with Absorb Plus Vegan or Original.
However, Absorb Plus Amino is formulated so that people can add their own amount of good fat as everyone’s fat tolerance is different. We recommend adding 1 tbsp. made from MCT oil, cold-pressed organic flax or Udo’s Choice oil.
If you are using an all-element diet for SIBO, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Candida, or allergy testing/exemption, this formula may work well for a shorter duration diet (1-2 weeks) due to the lower carbohydrate content. However, if you use Absorb Plus Amino in combination with easily tolerated foods or alternating with Absorb Plus Vegan or Original, it will probably work well to take AP Amino for as long as you want.
A hypoallergenic formula like this is ideal as a clearance diet. You can then begin testing for food allergies by introducing one food per day or a new food every three days. It is also a good formula that can be alternated with AP Vegan or Original to avoid developing protein intolerance.
When I first went on an elemental diet almost 25 years ago, I discovered that I couldn’t maintain weight or gain weight on a free amino acid shake. However, I recently had a conversation with holistic health coach Debbie Steinbock, who has guided over 50 clients through an elemental diet, and she told me that people can maintain their weight with a free amino acid shake as long as they consume about 400 calories more than they need. How many servings per glass?
There are approximately 10 servings per jar – sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less, as Absorb Plus Amino is packaged by weight and deposits can occur during transport and storage. Start with half a serving and gradually increase the amount to give your body time to adjust.
