This is how our backyard waste system works
Let me tell you a cool story – but also provide evidence of the power of our microbiome and a non-toxic lifestyle. We have our own septic tank system in our house in the country. This means that all the waste from the toilets in the house goes through pipes into a septic tank in our backyard.
Separating the solids (feces and toilet paper) from the liquids is a natural cleaning process. It is done over 4 separate sections within the septic tank (connected by pipes).
In the first tank, the sludge waste can settle at the bottom of the tank. As the bacteria in the feces and urine begin to break down everything and multiply. The water and liquid substance above then flow (using gravity) into a second tank.
When the wastewater enters the second tank, the purification system uses simple aeration (pumping air into the tank) to begin purifying the water.
Air and Water: The Easy Way to Clean
How does simply flushing water with air help to purify it? Well, it uses oxygen, which promotes natural bacterial growth. These come from your feces and, to a lesser extent, your urine. And the bacteria continue to process the fecal particles and purify the water.
This aeration cleaning process takes place in three separate tanks. And how the water flows from the second to the third and to the fourth. And when it reaches the fifth tank, it’s clear. Clean water that can be pumped back into the country. And then when that water drains back into the aquifer that supplies water to your well. (And to your neighbors’ wells). That’s completely fine because it’s clean water.
We had only lived in this house for two years. So it was time for our first collection tank. The one that fills up with solid waste, is pumped out and taken away. When they pump out your septic tank, they also check the entire system. And each of the holding tanks to see if everything is OK and working well.
The interesting thing is… When the man checked our second wastewater aeration tank, he couldn’t believe what he saw. He has been emptying septic tanks and monitoring wastewater treatment plants for almost 30 years. And said he had never seen the second tank contain almost clear water!
He tried to figure out how this could happen, because it usually does. The water doesn’t start to clarify and become clean until the third or fourth tank.
Clean Living: How Simple Choices Make a Difference
Why is the feces from our household so different from that of other households? Of course, no studies have been conducted on this. But since bacteria are the main players in this equation. I would guess this is because every member of our family takes Natren probiotics daily!
We also eat organic or grass-fed foods and everything else that goes into our water/septic tank is completely natural (no chemicals) – from laundry detergent to shampoo to cleaning products, etc.
So if you ever needed proof that clean living and Natren probiotics increase and improve the number of beneficial bacteria in feces – here you have it!
