I chat about what I would do differently if I were starting my health journey today.

Hello Hello! And hello from San Diego! I’m here to have some mastermind adventures and spend a lot of time with my best friend Betsy, which is the best combination.

In today’s post, I wanted to talk about something I’ve been thinking about lately: what I would do differently if I were starting my health journey today.

What I would do differently if I started my health journey today

I have had a few major transition points regarding my health over the years:

    – When I first decided in college that I wanted to “get healthy.” I tried everything: different eating styles, workouts, routines. Some worked, others didn’t.

    – A few years after I got married, I stopped using birth control and realized how much it was masking the symptoms and silently exhausting me. I needed daily naps and subsisted on multiple cups of coffee just to function.

    – During fertility issues, when I made big changes in exercise and diet and discovered functional medicine (which was still considered mumbo jumbo in 2009, I can tell you that).

    – Postpartum while dealing with intense postpartum depression and anxiety.

    – Later, when eye problems and autoimmune symptoms appeared.

    And now… here I am.

Am I perfect? Absolutely not 😉

But I feel better now than I did in college… and it definitely didn’t happen overnight. It took time, mistakes, certifications, experience and a lot of learning about nuances and personalization.

How to stress less this holiday season

If I were to start over today, here’s what I would do first:

I would stop eating too little

I didn’t eat enough for years and couldn’t figure out why my hair was falling out, my energy was gone, and my body felt stuck. I wasn’t eating enough protein, fiber, or total calories and my body was constantly trying to survive instead of thriving.

I would regulate my nervous system before chasing protocols

I was in fight-or-flight from about the age of six until… honestly, just a few years ago. I didn’t realize how much my nervous system affected everything: hormones, digestion, immunity, sleep. Getting out of this condition requires therapy, supplements, habits and a lot of awareness. I still remind myself several times a day, “This is not an emergency.” Most of us completely underestimate how much our nervous system influences our health.

    I would test it sooner

If you don’t test, you’re guessing… and installments will be expensive. I wasted money on powders and supplements that I didn’t need because I didn’t have the data. Testing allows you to personalize your plan instead of following current trends or trends on the internet.

I would do less crafting and ask for support sooner

I took care of my fitness and nutrition for a long time, especially early on. Looking back, I didn’t have to reinvent the wheel. Learning from a practitioner with experience would have saved me years of trial and error.

This is exactly the clarity I help my 1:1 clients achieve: faster, without burnout, confusion or wasted time.

If you’re early in your journey (or feeling stuck after trying “everything”), here’s what you need to know: You’re not behind, you’re not broken, and you don’t have to do it alone. <3

So tell me, friends: What did you have to learn the hard way? What do you think has had the biggest impact on your health journey and everyday life?

    xo
