How to Navigate Healing with Supplement Sensitivity
Okay, you want to heal naturally … but you keep reacting to the natural remedies you take! It’s frustrating, counterproductive, disheartening – and if you’re okay with it, I’ll preach to the choir!
If you’ve seen my video with Jini, you’ll remember that I call myself the “Herx Queen” because I’ve reacted to almost everything !!
It can be very frustrating because you don’t want to turn to medication, but when you can’t tolerate certain “natural” methods it can be very daunting. I know it was safe for me!
So today I want to share with you some tips that have helped rid my symptoms of these reactions. I’ve gotten to a point at some point where I could tolerate things that I never could before, so don’t give up hope! I hope the tips I share with you today will help you navigate these waters a little smoother.
Tip 1: Start with “baby cans”.
I had doctors at the time and a natural health coach who were very understanding. They supported my “natural healing journey” for which I was so grateful. But even the most intelligent naturopaths are NOT a GAME for their own body wisdom! They would recommend that I take a dose of a natural remedy, and since I only know my own body, I choose to take a quarter of what they recommended.
They told me what dose to take and I said, “Great, thanks!” Then when I got home, I only took a smaller dose. And honestly, thank goodness because sometimes I still got a response to ¼ of the dose they recommended! Yikes
For example, baby doses can contain as little as 1 drop. That’s how I started with wild oregano oil. Just one drop made me Herx first! Start small and see how you react. There is no rush to get tough and strong as you don’t want to make things worse.
I realized that my body was slowly getting sick…. So I had to start slowly as my body got used to the anti-pathogen. Remember that in some ways you are disturbing the flora – even if it is bad flora. This disorder is good in the long run, but it is still a disorder and can lead to “death” symptoms.
Tip 2: Be grateful for what you achieve.
As you learn things about yourself and your body, you will gain invaluable wisdom and insight. Refresh your thinking and be grateful for all your body can do at this point. We sometimes take it for granted what our body does for us all day long. Instead of focusing on the frustration of what he currently cannot tolerate, let us be grateful for what he is doing – the “small wins”. As we heal in layers, our bodies change and for me I was able to tolerate more when I detoxified the pathogens.
Tip 3: turn it on!
Switching combinations and remedies can be great as you might find a winning combination. For example, when I was using BPC-157, I was actually mainly using it for my sinuses! I opened the capsules (I didn’t use the liquid form) and added them to my nasal sprays and nasal rinse for my severe allergies and sinusitis. I noticed results here almost immediately. Don’t be afraid to get creative – but of course always consult your doctor and / or do your own research. My experimentation was mainly based on the suggestions of my health coach, but also on what felt right to me – body wisdom and me To support insight that I had gained.
In this way, I also found out which ingredients I could tolerate and which didn’t and which ingredients worked. Which leads me to my next tip …
Tip 4: take a closer look.
Look at Why You couldn’t tolerate the “x” addition is very valuable information! It can help you figure out what ingredients might be causing your reactions, as well as other supplements to avoid which ones might contain those ingredients.
For example, when I first took MucosaCalm, I reacted immediately – and at first I couldn’t figure out why! All of the ingredients were supposedly so good for healing your lining and this is where I had these negative reactions to it. But I was determined to get to the bottom of it. I decided to take the main ingredients of MucosaCalm separately and finally found out that slippery elm was the cause of my diarrhea!
I also learned that the marshmallow root really helped calm everything down, so I started with a small dose first … then slowly worked my way up until I added slippery elm again. I can now tolerate Mucosacalm well, but at this point all the ingredients at once were too much for me!
Tip 5: go with the flow.
Moving on to tip 5, the important thing to realize is that healing is a process. Life changes, our bodies change, and as we uncover these layers of our healing journey, your perfect regimen can change too. See what your body needs and deal with it. Many different times in my healing journey I have been able to tolerate certain things and other times I have not. There are so many factors that contribute, including emotions and our environment. This is where Jini’s lazer tapping tool is so effective. You can access your body to see why you are not healing and thus gain valuable insight into the process.
Tip 6: resolve trapped trauma.
If you’ve had extreme reactions, trauma comes with the territory! I remember having had PTSD from previous reactions, so much so that I would evoke more reactions for engaging in a negative mindset / state of sacrifice. When a reaction started, I made it ten times worse by panicking at memories of past reactions. In these cases I use Jini’s Lazer Tapping AGAIN.
I say this because I personally practice both meditation and lazer tapping on a daily basis. It was such a crucial part of my healing, and as Jini mentioned, it has been the cornerstone of being healed from Crohn’s using only natural methods for over 25 years. Check out the Mind / Body / Spirit section of the blog to find all of the Jini’s favorite remedies.
Every time I decided to introduce something new, I would tap it before consuming it. I typed to let go of past reactions and fears, to stay in the present moment, and when a reaction set in I typed more. I typed so it wouldn’t get too extreme and asked my body why it was reacting this way and what I could do to help.
Tip 7: Whenever you consume / introduce something new, pay attention to your general state of being.
Your surroundings have a huge impact on you. If you are introducing something new in a stressful environment, everything is very unlikely to go smoothly. If I needed space to see how my body was reacting to something and there were too many people around, I would literally get in my car and drive to a peaceful place! That way it was clear if what I was consuming was causing the reaction or if it was just the time or environment in which I was consuming it.
This is very important to distinguish! Our bodies cannot digest properly if we are not in a calm state! You should salivate, smile or laugh with friends before you eat – these will put you in the right attitude to digest well. Imagine taking an anti-pathogen in a stressful state? In my opinion, it’s a setup for failure!
For example, during the shutdown in response to the pandemic, it was difficult to eat out with friends. That’s why I made it my goal to call a friend before or during dinner. Another time I took a break from work to watch a silly show while I was having lunch. The smile while watching my favorite fun show (The Office) helped me digest my food and supplements!
A good rule of thumb for this is to try something that you react to three times. Try them in different environments or at different times of the day to see if you are actually allergic to them or just reacting to a bad environment. THEN you know that it is the product and not external factors. But again do what your body tells you to do!
As we always say, listen to your gut. 🙂
